20 year old Nepali in jail for fraud in Australia

Pravin Mainali, 20, had arrived in Australia in November of 2018 on a student visa. He came to Australia to have a better future but has ended up on the wrong side of the law.
Pravin was caught by the NSW police for commiting fraud against an elderly australia citizen. He was working with a fraud syndicate targeting elderly residents in retirement homes. He pleaded guilty to the offence at Burwood Local Court on 5th of March 2020.
Pravin and his friend called the 86-year-old man, pretending to figure at Westpac, and told him his card had been fraudulently accessed. Mr Mainali, an information technology student, then visited the Anglican retirement village in Castle Hill where his elderly victim lived, to gather the cardboard.
Pravin told the elderly gentleman that his name was Josh and convinced him to hand over his MasterCard and pin details, on the phone. And, in just two day, Pravin withdrew $4000 cash from ATMs in Burwood and chateau Hill.
The 86-year-old victim noticed suspicious activity in his back account in January and reported to The Hills police. At 3:15PM, 3rd of March 2020, the police arrested Pravin in Burwood and he was charged with nine counts of obtain financial advantage by deception and one count of house identity information to commit an indictable offence.
Pravin didn’t deny the facts and pleaded guilty to all or any ten counts at Burwood Local Court yesterday.
During his investigation, Leaving mentioned that he was working for someone else, and they got in touch after responding to a Gumtree advertisement.
In total, Pravin withdrew $4537 from the victim’s card which were captured on CCTV.
The Burwood Local Court denied Pravin bail on 5th of March. He will return to Burwood for sentencing on the 14th of April.
